The Schmeisser Myth: German Submachine Guns through Two World Wars

The Schmeisser Myth German Submachine Guns through Two World Wars by Martin Helebrant Deluxe First Edition, 2016 Description ISBN-10: 0889355878 ISBN-13: 978-0889355873 Height: 11.25" Width: 9" Thickness: 1.125" Weight: 3 lbs. 6 oz. Pages: 432 Number of Photos and Illustrations: 507 A plethora of submachine guns were developed in Germany before 1945. Most, if not all of these, are covered in this book. The most popular models, by far, have been the MP 38 and MP 40 series; collectively, but erroneously known to most as the "Schmeissers." The origins of "the Schmeisser myth" can be traced back to the summer of 1940 when an official British Military Intelligence report described the first captured MP 38 as a "parachute troops machine pistol of the Schmeisser type," while further describing how later that year plans were afoot to produce the “9mm Schmeisser Carbine MP 38 Parachute Model” at BSA Guns Ltd. in Birmingham. The book begins with a brief history of modern warfare combined with the technological and strategical developments that led to the first "machine guns." The adoption during WWI of Infiltration tactics as a means of surmounting the stagnation of trench warfare is also covered. The elite German and Austrian Sturmtruppen (storm troopers) were clamoring for portable rapid-fire weaponry capable of effective close-range striking power. A new class of military small arms was the result, beginning with the Italian Villar Perosa (VP). Several early German developments based on the VP culminated in the adoption of the Bergmann Maschinenpistole 18/I (MP 18/I) in 1918. The new term "submachine gun," coined in America, came to denote any light, portable, pistol-caliber automatic weapon of the type called a Maschinenpistole in Germany. The MP 38 was adopted in 1938 and was superseded by a somewhat simpler version called the MP 40 in 1940. The MP 40 was produced in five manufacturing variations by three firms: ERMA, Haenel, and Steyr until 1944. Of special interest to advanced collectors will be the four detailed illustrated accounts of MP 38 and MP 40 magazines and loaders, magazine pouches, manuals, and the rare transport and storage chest. This in-depth technical, tactical, and historical treatise on these important iconic weapons and their makers includes a bibliography and an extensive Index, making it an indispensable reference guide. No German machinegun aficionado can afford not to have this book in their library. Larger than life 2 The life and times of Lubavitcher Rebbe CONTROVERSIAL Deutsch

BBD90 Larger Than Life: The Life and Times of the Lubavicher Rebbe Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, Vol. 2 by Shaul S. Deutsch LANGUAGE: ENGLISH NEW COPY, HARDCOVER BANNED IN CERTAIN CHABAD CIRCLES! Larger Than Life represents a first in Orthodox Jewish literature., an objective and documented account of the life of an important sage and rabbi. Most such works paint a picture of the "hero" as someone who was more than human, and could do no wrong. Deutsch, himself a former Lubavitcher Chassid, and now leader of a Chabad breakaway group paints a very human portrait of his late mentor. Deutsch focuses in on the rebbe's life and times, but in the process the reader is given a detailed account of the travails of Russian Jewry first under the detested Czars of the Romanov dynasty and then under the repressive Communist regime. We learn of the process of secularazation in Russian Jewry, with many of Russia's young Jews being drawn to the new ideologies of Communism, Socialism and Zionism. This process did not fail to affect even the great rabbinic families of Chassidic Russia, as numerous young scions of many rabbinic families, the Schneersohn family among them, were drawn to these new secular ideologies. Yet the future rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Schneerson resisted this trend, and remained a devoutly religious Jew, albeit in his very own way. As he embarked for Berlin, and Paris to pursue secular studies and Western culture in order to understand the world from both a religious and scientific point of view. OPrior to leaving Communist Russia, young Schneerson marries his distant cousin Mussya, 2nd daughter of Rabbi Joseph I. Schneersohn, 6th Lubavitcher rebbe, thus becoming a potential heir to the 200 year old Chabad dynasty. Deutsch introduces us to the rebbe's immediate family, his childhood friends, his father in laws family, as well as his neighbiors and teachers in Berlin. For the first time ever, we are able to gleam, what the rebbe's course of studies in Berlin was, and who his teachers were. we also learn the truth about the relationship of young Schneerson with the great Jewish philosopher, Dr. Abraham J. Hesche, and the future Talmudic giant, Rabbi Joseph B. Soloveitchik of Yeshiva !
