It was 2002 and something invisible was killing Claudia Kanne. When her doctor told her husband she was psychotic, she was determined to find out what was killing her and expose it, if it was the last thing she did. It was the only way she could help protect others from a similar fate.

Claudia Kanne’s body was slowly invaded by an invisible, colorless, odorless, and tasteless chemical that was killing her but no one believed her, not her doctors, not even her husband. She would go into tachycardia, stop breathing and slip into unconsciousness. Her body would spasm and her hands would turn to claws. She knew she was married, but she had no idea who she was married to. The only way she could fight back was to leave a written and video diary of her death in hopes that the coroner would be able to put the pieces of the puzzle together.

Just by breathing, she had, unknowingly, ingested a toxic dry-cleaning solvent, tetrachloroethylene aka perchloroethylene and her life changed forever.

“DRY-CLEAN ONLY” is a compilation of those videos … the story of Claudia Kanne’s fight to prove she wasn’t psychotic and help others, especially babies and small children, from suffering the same fate.

Alone, she bravely testified and picketed against 500 dry-cleaners before the final vote by the South Coast Air Quality Management District. The vote was in her favor. 12-0. She succeeded in helping to get the first banning of the chemical In the United States. After the landslide vote, we began to see “Greener Cleaners” and “non-toxic” cleaners opening up everywhere.
